Scientific Training Meets Educational Innovation

Dr. Blackmon combines chemistry, cultural anthropology, educational research, and program evaluation to develop practical, evidence-based solutions.

Research and Academic Background

Dr. Blackmon earned her Ph.D. in Educational Studies with an emphasis in Science Education from Emory University.

She also holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Analytical Chemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology and completed a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Cultural Anthropology.

Before founding Innovative Learning Center in 2003, she worked as a research chemist for Dow Chemical and 3M, bringing scientific rigor and analytical thinking into educational research and evaluation.

Current Research

In addition to leading Innovative Learning Center, Dr. Blackmon serves as Principal Investigator for an innovative eye-tracking distance-learning research study examining how learners solve complex chemistry problems.

This research explores cognitive activity, problem difficulty, and learning behaviors to improve chemistry instruction, educational technology, and evidence-based teaching practices.

The findings have important implications for STEM education, adaptive learning systems, and instructional software development.
